The New Palestine girls swim team placed third in Saturday’s sectional, finishing with 251 points.
Greenfield-Central (503) won the title, with Mt. Vernon (364) finishing second. NP won a tight battle for third place, finishing just ahead of Connersville (250), Richmond (197) and Centerville (138). Hagerstown (137), Eastern Hancock (130) and New Castle (116) rounded out the sectional field.
Karen Shriver placed third in diving and will advance to next week’s diving regional. She tallied 325.80 points.
The Dragons had two runner-up performances. One came from the 400 free relay of Jessica Rogers, Maria Virt, Bailey Young and Cassy Moorman. They posted a time of 4:00.56 and finished second to G-C.
Rogers was also second in the 100 freestyle (55.33). She placed third in the 50 freestyle (25.05).
The 200 free relay of Maigan Williams, Kayleigh Wright, Kaylynn Crawmer and Claire Whisler was fifth (1:56.24). The 200 medley relay of Virt, Owens, Rogers and Moorman was sixth (2:06.15).
Individually, Virt was fourth in the 500 freestyle (5:53.78) and fifth in the 200 freestyle (2:09.34). Young placed seventh in the 200 IM (2:33.55). Williams was seventh in the 100 butterfly (1:09.52).
Whisler finished 10th in the 100 breaststroke. Young finished 11th in the 500 freestyle. Williams was 11th in the 200 IM. Wright was 11th in the 100 butterfly and 12th in the 100 backstroke. Owens finished 12th in the 100 breaststroke. Emma Nobbe was 12th in the 200 freestyle and 13th in the 500 freestyle. Moorman placed 13th in the 50 freestyle and 12th in the 100 freestyle. Samantha Booe was 12th in diving. Crawmer was 16th in the 100 freestyle. Erica Long finished 16th in the 200 free. Teagan Davis was 16th in the 100 butterfly.
