The New Palestine girls swim team advanced swimmers to Saturday’s sectional finals in six individual events and all three relays.
In addition, the Dragons will have 13 swims in Saturday’s consolation finals.
NP’s swimmers qualified through from Thursday’s sectional prelims. The eight fastest times in each event advance the championship final, with positions 9-16 advancing to the consolation final. The diving preliminaries begin at 9 a.m. Saturday, with the swimming finals at 1 p.m. at the NPHS natatorium.
Dragons Jessica Rogers and Maria Virt will each swim in the finals in two individual events. Rogers finished second in the 100 freestyle (55.69) and third in the 50 freestyle (25.70) in the prelims. Virt finished fourth in the 200 freestyle (2:09.52) and sixth in the 500 freestyle (5:53.78).
Bailey Young advanced in the 200 IM after finishing seventh Thursday with a time of 2:34.21. Maigan Williams also clinched a spot in the championship final with a seventh-place finish in the 100 butterfly (1:11.10).
All three relays also qualified for the championship finals. Rogers, Virt, Cassy Moorman and Young placed second in Thursday’s prelims with a time of 4:00.77. The 200 free relay of Kaylynn Crawmer, Williams, Owens and Claire Whisler finished fourth. The 200 medley relay of Teagan Davis, Owens, Rogers and Moorman was seventh.
Advancing to the consolation finals in two events were Moorman (50 free, 12th; 100 free, 13th), Emma Nobbe (500 free, 14th; 200 free, 15th) and Kayleigh Wright (100 butterfly, 11th; 100 backstroke, 11th). Also advancing were Whisler (10th) and Owens (12th) in the 100 breaststroke, Williams in the 200 IM (13th), Young in the 500 free (10th), Erica Long in the 200 free (13th), Crawmer in the 100 free (15th) and Davis in the 100 butterfly (16th).
