The No. 16 New Palestine girls basketball team used a big first quarter Friday to seize control of a 47-29 victory over Whiteland.
The Dragons gave up the game’s first basket, then went on a 19-point run to take a 19-2 lead after a quarter. The Dragons kept the edge in double figures from there, maintaining the lead at 29-12 at halftime and extending it to 41-22 after three.
The Dragons are now 13-1 on the season and have won nine straight games.
Leah Seib scored nine of her game-high 13 points in the first half. Haley Harrison added 10 points. Jordan Reid scored nine. Megan Jolly hit back-to-back buckets at the end of the third to extend the lead to 19 and finished with eight points. Katie Herron scored five and Emily Newcomb two.
The Dragons are back in action Saturday afternoon at Perry Meridian, with a 1 p.m. JV start followed by a 2:30 p.m. varsity tip.
The Dragon JV fell 42-28.
