Girls Varsity Basketball · Girls basketball beats Marauders, improves to 11-1


The New Palestine girls basketball team used a strong performance in the middle quarters Tuesday to seize control in a 46-40 victory at Mt. Vernon. 

The victory put NP alone in first place in the Hoosier Heritage Conference with a 5-0 record. The Dragons are ranked No. 18 in the statewide IBCA poll. The Dragons are 11-1 overall.

NP built an early lead, but an 11-6 second-quarter spurt pushed the edge to 24-16 at halftime. Leah Seib scored nine of her game-high 18 points in the opening quarter, while Jordan Reid scored the other four. Seib tallied six more in the second quarter. Haley Harrison added a key 3-pointer in the second frame to help push the lead.

NP took the lead as high as 16 in the third quarter and led 35-21 after three, outscoring MV 11-5, with Reid scoring six of the Dragons’ points. In the final period, Megan Jolly scored five points. Harrison, Seib and Katie Herron scored two each as NP built the lead to 41-27 before a late MV rally cut the lead to six in the final minute.

In addition to Seib’s 18 points, Reid scored 10. Harrison and Jolly scored five each. Tatum Biddle tallied four. Michaela Jones and Herron scored two each.

The Dragon JV also won 44-32.

The Dragons return home Saturday to face Yorktown with a noon JV tip, followed by the varsity game at 1:30 p.m.
