The New Palestine cross country teams both won Saturday’s Rushville regional, each doing so by a narrow three-place margin.
The Dragon boys won their second regional championship in three years, while the girls won the first regional title in school history.
The girls won a narrow 31-34 decision over Franklin Central, reversing the order from last week’s sectional. NP placed four runners in the top 10 and all five scoring runners in the top 12.
Brenna Shaw was the regional champion with a time of 18:50.6, winning by 6.6 seconds over runner-up Brianna Lawson of Franklin Central. Victoria Crowder was third (19:07.7). Kendall Mann finished seventh (19:28.7) and Kaylin Casner ninth (19:45.8). Emily Adam was 12th (20:13.6). Grace Voelz placed 15th and Haley Rickey 26th.
The Dragon boys also won by three places over Franklin Central 58-61.
Drew Austin was the regional runner-up with a time of 16:27.8. Josh Collins placed fifth (16:43.8), Kyler Harrison 11th (16:52.4), Devon Whitaker 13th (17:01.5) and Caleb Stirm 31st (17:27.0). Colin Darley was 50th and Josh Ackerman 51st.
The Dragons will advance to next Saturday’s semistate at Blue River Park in Shelbyville.
