Girls Varsity Soccer · Girls soccer advances to sectional final

The New Palestine girls soccer team convincingly clinched a spot in Saturday’s sectional championship match at Rushville, beating Beech Grove 9-2 in Thursday’s semifinal.

The Dragons will face Shelbyville in Saturday’s 2 p.m. championship match. NP is seeking its second straight sectional title.

The Dragons scored all nine of their goals in the first half. Maddy Miller gave NP an early lead and scored two goals. Victoria Crowder added two goals and an assist. Megan Jolly and Emmy Giddens each had a goal and an assist. Olivia Lambdin and Haley Harrison also scored for the Dragons.

New Palestine is now 13-4 headed into the title match.

“It took us a few minutes to adjust to the offsides trap they presented. Once the players found their groove though, they didn’t look back. Most of the goals were breakaways, 1v1, with a through ball past the offsides trap. Twenty different players found time on the field tonight,” NP coach Gina Fannin said. “Beech Grove found the net twice, but they were really never a threat. Saturday we meet Shelbyville in the sectional championship game. We are hoping for the same result as when we played them a week week and a half ago.”
