The New Palestine girls soccer team scored early and then broke through against a defensively-minded Connersville squad Tuesday in a 4-0 NP victory.
The Dragons (12-4) advance to the semifinal round of the Rushville sectional, where they will face Beech Grove at 7 p.m. Thursday.
Haley Harrison scored the lone goal of the first half, scoring with a header off Victoria Crowder’s corner kick.
At half, the Dragons made some adjustments to get around the Spartans, who were packing the penalty area with a defensive posture. Crowder dribbled down the left side and drew a foul in the penalty area for a PK. Crowder then buried the penalty to give the Dragons a 2-0 lead.
Megan Jolly made it 3-0 with a wall pass combo with Maddy Miller. Jolly got behind the defense and hit the ball past the Spartan goalkeeper into the side netting. Emmy Giddens ripped the fourth goal through a crowd and into the net.
In addition to the goal scorers, coach Gina Fannin cited the play of Olivia Lambdin, whose strong midfield play helped the Dragons control the pace.
