The New Palestine volleyball team clinched its fourth consecutive 20-win season and also took some hardware Saturday, sweeping three matches to win the Richmond Invitational.
The Dragons beat Union County 25-11, 25-9 in the day’s opening match, behind 11 digs from Lydia Jones, 12 assists from Sydney Robertson and a six-kill, five-ace match from Kaelyn Armstrong.
NP beat Monroe Central 25-19, 25-22 in the second match. Jesi Hall had nine kills. Lauren Dodd and Armstrong had four kills each. Reina Amones added two aces. Robertson had 18 assists and three kills.
In the championship match, the Dragons beat Richmond 25-19, 25-20. Robertson had 16 assists and five digs. Armstrong had six kills and eight digs. Isabel Martens added five kills and three blocks. Hall had four kills. Jones and Audrey VanderWal had nine digs each. Rylie Sturgeon had seven digs.
“It was nice to see the girls come together and win this as a team. We are working around an injury and had to put girls in different positions,” NP coach Kelli Whitaker said. “I’m proud of their resiliency and for battling through adversity.”
The Dragons are now 21-6 on the season, including three Saturday invitational titles. They return home Monday to face Noblesville.
