Girls Varsity Volleyball · Volleyball zaps Flashes for 17th win


The New Palestine volleyball team rallied Monday evening to beat Franklin Central 20-25, 25-17, 25-20, 27-25.

The Dragons used a balanced attack, with three players tallying double-digit kills. Lydia Jones had a double-double with 13 kills and 10 digs. Kaelyn Armstrong had 12 kills and five digs. Jesi Hall added 10 kills, six digs and three blocks. Isabel Martens added four kills and four blocks.

Rylie Sturgeon led the defense with 17 digs. Audrey VanderWal added nine digs. Sydney Armstrong had six digs and 41 assists.

“Very happy with the adjustments we made during the match tonight,” coach Kelli Whitaker said. “The girls listened, executed, and won the match. Serving was the difference-maker tonight. We had minimal service errors and served them deep corners.”

The Dragons are now 17-5 on the season. They return home Tuesday to face HHC rival Yorktown.

The Dragon JV won 25-15, 25-10 to improve to 18-2. The freshman team moved to 13-1 with a 25-6, 25-21 victory.

Rylie Sturgeon had 17 digs for the Dragons in their victory.
