Boys Varsity Cross Country, Girls Varsity Cross Country · CC teams claim county titles


The New Palestine cross country teams swept the Hancock County meet Tuesday, with the Dragons winning both team and individual titles.

The Dragon boys won with 19 points, beating Greenfield-Central (57), Mt. Vernon (60) and Eastern Hancock (98).

NP swept the top three spots. Drew Austin was the county champion with a time of 17:18.48. Kyler Harrison was second (17:44.18) and Josh Collins third (17:48.48). Devon Whitaker was sixth (18:11.86) and Caleb Stirm seventh (18:15.83).

In the girls meet, the Dragons tallied a perfect score of 15 to win, sweeping six of the top seven spots and seven of the top nine. MV (49) was second. Both EH and G-C fielded incomplete teams.

Brenna Shaw was the county champion with a time of 20:27.07. Victoria Crowder placed a close second in 20:27.53. Kendall Mann was fourth (21:17.65), Emily Adam fifth (21:28.79) and Haley Rickey sixth (22:05.04). Grace Voelz was seventh and Kaylin Casner ninth to place all seven Dragons in the top 10.
