Girls Varsity Golf · One for the thumb: Girls golf wins fifth straight sectional


The New Palestine girls golf team won its fifth straight sectional championship Monday, shooting a team score of 363 to win the New Palestine sectional at The Links.

The Dragons beat runner-up Greenfield-Central by 15 strokes and third-place Greenwood by 17.

Annaliese Fox won the individual championship with a two over-par 74. She won the title by eight strokes over runner-up Caroline Gibson of Greenfield-Central. Fox shot three birdies on the back route en route to a 35.

Izzy Gray added an 87. Megan Diller and Michaela Purnell each shot 101. Abby Belgin fired a 108 as the fifth score.

The Dragons advance to compete in the Lapel regional, which will tee off at 8:30 a.m. Saturday at Edgewood Golf Club in Anderson.
