Boys Varsity Track, Girls Varsity Track · Austin, Crowder win events at Midwest Prep


Two New Palestine athletes posted victories as the Dragons had a strong showing at the Midwest Prep Invitational at Lawrence Central.

One of the top events in the region, the Midwest Prep brings together several high-level teams and athletes.

Victoria Crowder won the 400 meters with a 1:01.68. Drew Austin also brought home a title with a time of 4:41.15 in the 1600.

The Dragons’ 4×800 relay of Crowder, Haley Rickey, Hannah Taggart and Kaylin Casner finished third, posting the third-fastest time in NPHS history at 9:52.82.

Two Dragons finished in the top 10 in the 3200. Kyler Harrison was second with a time of 9:57.07. Josh Collins was ninth with a time of 10:19.66.

The Midwest Prep was the second major event NPHS track athletes competed in this weekend. The Dragons’ boys 4×800 relay of Austin, Harrison, Collins and Devon Whitaker ran 8:36 in Friday’s Flashes Showcase, an event that brings together several of the top distance runners in the state. They finished fifth in their heat and 11th overall. Kaylin Casner ran 5:27 in the 1600. She was 12th in her heat and 33rd overall.
