The New Palestine softball team scored in every at-bat, including a nine-run second inning, in Thursday’s 19-8 five-inning victory over Hamilton Southeastern.
NP again went deep often, hitting five homers and seven extra-base hits in the victory. The Dragons scored at least three runs in every inning.
The Dragons’ victory was the team’s third, with all of the games being decided by double digits. NP has outscored its opponents 48-13 and hit 16 homers in three games.
The Jones sisters did much of the offensive damage. Sophomore catcher Michaela Jones homered twice, giving her a team-high-tying four on the season. She reached base four times, scored all four, and drove in four runs. Senior pitcher Mackenzie Jones homered and drove in three runs.
Junior Macy Miller also had a big night, going 3-for-4 with a homer, two runs and six RBI. Junior Jaylin Calvert had the Dragons’ other homer, a solo shot for her fourth homer of the year, tying for the team lead. She was 2-for-3 with three runs scored.
NP outhit HSE 15-11 in the contest. Ashley Prange was 3-for-4 with a double, two runs and three RBI. Tatum Biddle tripled, walked three times and scored twice. Emily O’Connor and TeTe Hart also each singled and scored a run. Hart also drove a run in, as did Emma Tucher.
Mackenzie Jones pitched three innings to get the win, allowing eight hits and five earned runs, striking out two. Kaylea Bullock allowed three hits and three earned runs, fanning three, in the seventh.
The Dragons (3-0) next play Saturday morning in the New Palestine tournament.
The Dragon JV also won 6-4 over HSE.
