Boys Varsity Track, Girls Varsity Track · Track teams split with Cardinals


The New Palestine track teams split a dual meet Wednesday at Southport.

The Dragon girls won 67-65 to improve to 3-0. The boys dropped a close 69-63 decision.

The Dragon girls won 10 of the 15 events in their victory, with seven different athletes winning eight individual events. Addie Halter won the 100 and long jump. Olivia McKilligin won the 200, Sophia Taylor the 400, Kendall Mann the 1600, Kaylin Casner the 3200, Lydia Jones the high jump and Aden Lumbley the shot put.

The Dragons also won two relays. Brenna Shaw, Haley Rickey, Victoria Crowder and Casner won the 4×800. Taylor, Hannah Taggart, McKilligin and Crowder won the 4×400 to clinch the close victory for the Dragons.

The Dragon boys won seven events in a close meet. Spencer Andrews was a double-winner in the 200 and 400. Jared Reed won the 110 hurdles, Kyler Harrison the 3200, Gavin Hausz the high jump, Richard Lopez the discus and Spencer Worth the pole vault. The team of Harrison, Joshua Ackerman, Caleb Stirm and Devon Whitaker won the 4×800 relay.

The Dragons next compete Thursday against Rushville at Kelso Stadium.

Olivia McKilligin was a double-winner Wednesday.
Sophia Taylor was a double-winner, including being part of the meet-clinching 4×400 relay.
Kyler Harrison won two events for the Dragons.
Spencer Andrews won the 200 and 400 in Wednesday’s meet.
