Boys Varsity Swimming, Coed Varsity Swimming · Boys swimming finishes fourth in sectional

The New Palestine boys swimming team finished fourth in Saturday’s New Palestine sectional, tallying 236 points.

Greenfield-Central won the sectional (525.5) over Mt. Vernon (364.5). Richmond was third (272). NP was ahead of Connersville (203), Eastern Hancock (170), Centerville (169), Hagerstown (93) and New Castle (62).

The Dragons had three third-place finishes, beginning with the meet-opening 200 medley relay – with Marlon Cabrera, Iago Broullon-Blanco, Nico Martin and Tyler Corey swimming 1:45.49.

Broullon-Blanco had two other third-place finishes – in the 200 IM (2:03.56) and 100 breaststroke (1:00.81).

The Dragons’ other top finishes came from relays. Corey, Louis Holbrook, Martin and Broullon-Blanco were fourth in the 400 free relay (3:27.64). Holbrook, Cabrera, Jackson Schwartz and Damon Estes finished fifth in the 200 free relay (1:39.12).

Holbrook finished sixth in the 200 freestyle (1:56.68) and seventh in the 100 butterfly (59.57). Martin was eighth in the 100 butterfly (59.91). The Dragons had two other eighth-place finishes – Cabrera in the 100 backstroke (1:02.22) and Austin Lines in diving (216.85).

Corey had two 10th-place finishes, in the 50 free and 100 free. In the 500 freestyle, Martin placed 10th and Keith Harp 16th. Harp was also 12th in the 100 butterfly. Cabrera placed 11th in the 200 IM, with Connor Phipps 14th. Darrell Drake finished 11th in diving. Schwartz was 13th in the 100 freestyle and 15th in the 200 freestyle. Placing 14th were Evan Denger in the 50 freestyle and Adam Buehrer in the 100 breaststroke. Steven Thompson finished 16th in the 100 backstroke.

Iago Brullon-Blanco finished third in three different events at the sectional.
Marlon Cabrera finished third in the 200 medley relay.
Nico Martin placed third in the 200 medley relay.
Tyler Corey finished third in the 200 medley relay.
Louis Holbrook finished in the top seven in four events.
