New Palestine High School junior Iago Broullon-Blanco will have the top seed in the 100 breaststroke when the New Palestine swimming sectional finals commence Saturday.
Broullon-Blanco finished first in the sectional preliminaries in the breaststroke with a time of 1:01.46. He’ll be one of three top-three seeds for New Palestine in Saturday’s sectional final races.
New Palestine will have eight swims in the championship finals, and 11 more in the consolation finals Saturday. Action begins at 9 a.m. with the diving preliminaries, followed by the swimming races.
In the 200 medley relay, Marlon Cabrera, Broullon-Blanco, Nico Martin and Tyler Corey finished second in the preliminaries with a time of 1:46.81.
Broullon-Blanco will also have a top-three seed in the 200 IM, where he beat his seed time by more than five seconds to swim 2:04.5 and finish third.
NP will have two swimmers in the championship final of the 100 butterfly. Louis Holbrook finished seventh in the prelims (59.78) and Martin eighth (1:00.04).
Holbrook will also swim in the championship final of the 200 freestyle (fifth, 1:57.82). Cabrera also advances in the 100 backstroke (eighth, 1:02.03). The 400 free relay of Martin, Damon Estes, Jackson Schwartz and Corey finished fifth Thursday with a time of 3:38.45. The 200 free relay of Chase Siler, Holbrook, Estes and Schwartz was sixth with a time of 1:40.48. Both will compete in the championship final faces.
NP will have two swimmers in the 200 IM consolation final, with Cabrera (10th, 2:19.79) and Connor Phipps (14th, 2:33.15). Corey (10th, 23.98) and Evan Denger (16th, 26.43) will swim in the 50 freestyle. In the 100 freestyle, Corey (10th, 52.28) and Schwartz (14th, 54.64) move on. NP also has two swimmers in the consolation final of the 500 – Martin (10th, 5:34.88) and Keith Harp (16th, 6:00.52). Also moving on are Schwartz in the 200 freestyle (14th, 2:03.51), Adam Buehrer in the 100 breaststroke (14th, 1:19.76) and Steven Thompson in the 100 backstroke (15th, 1:07.13).
