Girls Varsity Gymnastics · Gymnasts win Rushville Invitational for 7th straight year

The New Palestine gymnastics team won the Rushville Invitational for the seventh consecutive year Saturday, scoring a season-high 100.2 points.

Grace Shanahan won the all-around and three events, while Aly Henson also had an individual victory for the Dragons.

NP finished well ahead of runner-up Rushville (84.325). Shelbyville (81.425) was third, followed by Waldron (79.0), Muncie Central (78.4), Cambridge City Lincoln (46.55) and Morristown (40.675).

Shanahan won the all-around with a score of 38.05. Henson was second (33.25).

NP swept the top three spots in floor exercise, with Shanahan (8.75), Henson (8.6) and Sarah Thompson (8.475) leading the sweep. Taylor Brown placed fifth (8.1).

NP also swept the top three spots in the vault, with Henson (8.5), Emma Poag (8.475) and Shanahan (8.45) standing atop the podium. Brown (8.275) and Lucy Morwick (8.2) were seventh and eighth.

On balance beam, Shanahan (9.1) and Henson (8.375) had a 1-2 finish. Riley Cox was sixth (7.725) and Addie Halter eighth (7.525).

NP had a 1-2-3 sweep on uneven bars, with Shanahan (8.75), Henson (7.775) and Poag (7.225) taking the top three spots. Brown was seventh (6.325) and Cox eighth (6.0).

The Dragons are next in action Wednesday at home in a four-way meet against Muncie Central, Franklin Central and Scecina.
