The New Palestine girls basketball team posted its first victory over a ranked team this year, beating 2A No. 5 Triton Central 49-36 Saturday at the Indiana Farmers Coliseum.
Leah Seib scored 16 points – all in the second half – to lead the Dragons to the victory in their first game on a college court in 27 years.
NP led for much of the game, starting with a 6-0 run, but seized control in the third quarter, pushing what was a three-point halftime lead to double-digits at 36-25. TC cut it to six in the final five minutes, but a 3-pointer by Haley Harrison extended the lead to 41-32.
Seib scored a rebound basket with 2:35 left to push the lead to double-digits, then followed with a three-point play that made it 47-34 and added the exclamation point.
Seib hit seven baskets and was 2-for-2 from the line after halftime. Megan Jolly added eight points, including seven in the first quarter as the Dragons started the game strongly. Katie Herron had eight points. Emma Grable added seven second-quarter points. Haley Harrison scored five – all in the fourth quarter as the Dragons put the game away. Emily Newcomb and Tatum Biddle scored two points each for the Dragons.
TC was led by Haley Schneider’s 11 points.
The Dragons are now 13-4 on the season. They next play Tuesday at home against Beech Grove.
