The New Palestine girls basketball team began 2018 Tuesday with an emphatic 67-14 victory over Herron.
The Dragons jumped out to a 21-4 lead after a quarter and used a 29-0 run in the first half to go up 41-4 in the final minute of the first half.
Three Dragons scored in double figures – the third time in four games in which at least three players hit double figures. Junior Claire Cherry led the Dragons with a career-high 14 points, as she hit 7-of-8 from the floor. Junior Megan Jolly had a double-double with 12 points and 10 steals. The Dragons had 20 steals as a team, forcing 27 turnovers. Jolly hit 6-of-10 rom the floor. Leah Seib added 12 points on 6-of-9 shooting. She had three assists and four rebounds.
Eliza Adams added seven first-half points off the bench, and also had three rebounds. Haley Harrison hit two first-quarter 3-pointers for six points. She had three assists, three boards and four steals. Katie Herron also had six points and seven rebounds. Tatum Biddle had six points, four assists and eight rebounds. Emma Grable added four points and two assists. Avery Biggs had a team-high-tying three assists and also had two steals.
As a team, the Dragons hit 51 percent from the floor, shooting 30-of-58. NP was a perfect 5-for-5 from the line. Herron was 5-of-32 from the floor – 15 percent. NP held a 33-22 edge on the boards and a 27-7 edge in the turnover margin.
The Dragons are now 12-3 on the season. They next play Monday, Jan. 8 at Indian Creek with a 6 p.m. JV tipoff, followed by the varsity game at approximately 7:30 p.m.
