The New Palestine girls basketball team improved to 9-0 on the season Friday, pulling away in the fourth quarter to beat Greenfield-Central 42-31.

The 9-0 start is the best in school history. The Dragons are also 4-0 in the Hoosier Heritage Conference.

KatieHerron scored five first-quarter points to lead the Dragons to an early lead. Three-pointers by Megan Jolly and Emily Newcomb pushed the advantage to 15-8 in the second quarter before the Cougars scored the last five points of the half to cut the lead to two.

NP used a 15-3 second-half run to seize control of the game, taking a 34-22 lead, with triples by Leah Seib and Newcomb fueling the run. The Dragons then put the game away at the line, hitting 14-of-17 from the stripe in the game, including 12 of their 15 fourth-quarter points.

Jolly scored 13 points to lead the Dragons, tallying seven in the opening half. Seib scored all 11 of her points after the break. Newcomb and Herron scored seven each. Michaela Jones added four second-half points.

The Dragon JV also won 36-32 Thursday night.

The Dragons return to their home court Tuesday to face rival Mt. Vernon, with a 6 p.m. JV tipoff.
