The New Palestine cross country teams had a solid day at the Hoosier Heritage Conference meet Saturday at Shelbyville. The Dragon boys finished second in the conference, while the girls placed third.
Depth carried the NP boys, who had five runners in the top 30 and tallied 80 points to finish second to Pendleton Heights (35). Mt. Vernon (88) was third and Greenfield-Central (96) was fourth.
Kyler Harrison led the Dragons with a seventh-place finish (16:44.10). Drew Austin was 10th (17:00.19), Josh Collins 13th (17:04.92), Devon Whitaker 21st (17:21.43) and Alex Mohr 29th (17:43.74). Harrison, Austin and Collins were All-HHC performers.
The Dragon girls placed third with 78 places, with Yorktown (38) winning the title and Pendleton Heights (56) placing second. NP was eight places ahead of fourth-place Delta.
NP had two runners in the top four, as Brenna Shaw placed second with a time of 19:33.94. She was 8.2 seconds back of individual champion Christian Magers of Pendleton Heights. Kendall Mann was fourth (19:46.85) and also was named All-HHC. Grace Voelz placed 21st (21:53.36), Haley Rickey 24th (21:58.84) and Sophia Taylor 27th (22:18.33).
The Dragons next compete in the sectional, which will be held Oct. 7 at the NPHS cross country course.
