Girls Junior Varsity Soccer, Girls Varsity Soccer · Girls soccer finishes with shutout

The New Palestine girls soccer team finished the regular season Monday with a 3-0 shutout victory over Shelbyville on Senior Night.

Haley Harrison got the scoring started with a first-half goal assisted by Maya Stirm, putting NP up 1-0 at the half.

In the second half, Olivia McKilligin finished off a cross from Lucy Miller to give the Dragons a key insurance goal. Maddy Miller added to the lead by finishing a ball that Grace Voelz served into the area from the right side.

“Shelbyville played hard and had speed, but it wasn’t enough to stand up to the Dragons on Senior Night,” coach Gina Fannin said. “All of the seniors had plenty of minutes tonight.”

Fannin also credited the strong defensive play of Voelz and Hannah Taggart in helping secure the shutout.

The Dragons finish the regular season 11-2-1 and 5-2 in the Hoosier Heritage Conference. They will open sectional play next week against either Shelbyville or Connersville at the Shelbyville sectional.

The JV won 5-0 in a half. Audrey Petrow scored twice. Moriah Corey, Sydney Cornwell and Laney Knoop also had goals. Aubrey Neese, Rhina Brown and Cornwell had assists. The JV also beat Lawrence Central 2-0 on Saturday before the varsity game was canceled due to poor field conditions. The Dragon JV plays this week in the Warren Central JV invitational.
