Multiple Teams · CC teams run well at Shelbyville


The New Palestine cross country teams had solid days in a deep field Saturday at the Golden Bear Invitational in Shelbyville.

The Dragon boys finished seventh out of 15 schools in the large-school division, tallying 223 places. NP was 90 spots back of sixth-place Brebeuf, but beat seventh-place Danville by 12. Avon won the title with 58 places, beating Zionsville, Brownsburg and Westfield.

Kyler Harrison led the Dragons with a time of 16:45.5 and a 17th place finish. Josh Collins was 44th (17:32.7) and Drew Austin 47th (17:38.5). Devon Whitaker was 62nd and Ethan Westrate 69th.

The Dragon girls were ninth of 12 teams in the big-school division, with 231 places. They were 98 places ahead of 10th-place Danville, and narrowly finished behind eighth-place Zionsville, which had 216. Brebeuf, Brownsburg and Franklin Central took the top three spots.

Brenna Shaw led the Dragons with a time of 20:21.0 and a 17th-place finish. Kendall Mann was 37th (21:22.9). Haley Rickey was 62nd, Maigan Williams 74th and Sophia Taylor 75th.

The Dragons next compete Sept. 30 in the Hoosier Heritage Conference meet.
