The New Palestine golf team won its fourth straight sectional championship Saturday, shooting its season-best 18-hole score in the process.
The Dragons shot a four-player, 18-hole total of 333 in the tournament at Old Oakland, winning by 54 strokes over runner-up Greenwood.
NP, Greenwood and third-place Greenfield-Central (394) will advance to next Saturday’s regional at Edgewood Golf Course in Anderson. Play begins at 9 a.m.
Senior Mackenzi Black and sophomore Annaliese Fox finished 1-2 in the sectional. Black, a defending state finalist, won the individual title with a 1-under par 70, which is also an 18-hole school record. She shot 35 on each nine. Fox shot a 77 to finish as the runner-up, with a 37 on the front nine and a 40 on the back.
They were the only two golfers in the 13-team field to shoot in the 70s.
Izzy Gray shot 92 and Abby Belgin 94 to round out the Dragons’ sectional championship. Regina Olsen had the fifth score with a 106.
The victory was the fourth sectional title in school history.
