The New Palestine boys cross country team had a strong showing at the Marion Invitational, finishing second in the Purple Division race.
One of the state’s largest meets, the Dragons were second of 16 teams in their division, which was the large-school division and the second of the three races held.
NP tallied 81 places, finishing second to West Noble (40), and finishing 16 places ahead of Fort Wayne Dwenger (97). Muncie Central (164) was fourth.
The Dragons won by placing four runners in the top 20. They were led by fourth-place Kyler Harrison (16:38.0). Drew Austin was 11th (17:01.5). Devon Whitaker was 16th (17:14.3) and Josh Collins 17th (17:15.0). Quinn Dobbins was 36th as the Dragons’ fifth runner (17:53.7).
The Dragon girls placed eighth of 16 teams in the Purple Division race with 166 places. They were 20 spots behind seventh-place Maconaquah, and 42 ahead of ninth-place Angola in a close race. Fort wayne Luers won with 107 places.
Brenna Shaw led the Dragons with a 10th-place finish (20:00.2). Kendall Mann was 14th (20:16/9). Haley Rickey placed 27th (21:01.2). Krystyn Wickline (55th) and Sophia Taylor (62nd) rounded out the Dragons’ scoring.
The Dragon boys JV finished 10th, led by Nolan Espich’s 52nd-place finish. The JV girls were 16th, led by Allyson Collins’ 92nd-place finish.
