The New Palestine boys track and field team won three individual sectional titles and advanced several individuals and all three relays to next week’s regional at Warren Central.
NP finished fourth in Thursday’s Warren Central sectional with a score of 83.5 points – just four points back of runner-up Franklin Central and three points back of third-place Roncalli. Warren Central won the sectional title with 152 points.
The Dragons opened the day by winning the sectional title in the 4×800 relay. Spencer Corey, Chase Crowder, Caleb Eagleson and Sam Voelz ran 8:06.88 to win by more than 23 seconds.
Eagleson and Crowder also finished 1-2 in the 1600 to bring the Dragons a second sectional title. Eagleson ran 4:30.7 and Crowder 4:37.04. Voelz won the sectional title in the 800 (1:57.60).
Eagleson finished second in the 3200 (10:00.77) to advance to next week’s regional. The Dragons also advanced in the 4×100 relay, with Adam Brickens, Colby Jenkins, DuRon Ford and Brady Walden running 44.30 to finish third. The 4×400 relay of Jenkins, Corey, Voelz and Walden was second (3:25.49) and will advance to the regional.
Gavin Hausz was fourth in the high jump (5-10). Ford was fourth in the 100 (11.28). Corey was fourth in the 400 (51.90). All three will be advancing to next week’s regional based on times. Also advancing based on time/distance are Laine Schonauer, who was seventh in the high jump, Walden, who was sixth in the long jump, and Jared Reed, who was seventh in the 110 hurdles. The top three place winners in each sectional move on, as well as the next four best times/distances in each event from the four sectionals.
Also scoring were Reed, who was eighth in the 300 hurdles, and Kyler Harrison, who was eighth in the 3200.
The Dragons will compete at next Thursday’s Warren Central regional.
