The New Palestine baseball team blasted four homers Wednesday in a 16-5 victory over Roncalli.
Colby Jenkins hit a grand slam and drove in six runs. Jack Walker, Keegan Watson and Jacob Garrison also homered for the Dragons. The victory improved the Dragons’ record to 17-5 and snapped a two-game skid.
The Dragons were held scoreless in the first, but then tallied runs in each subsequent inning, scoring two in the second and third and five in the fourth to go up 9-0. Single runs in the fifth and sixth were followed with a five-run seventh.
Jenkins had a big day, going 2-for-4 with three runs and six RBI. In addition to his grand slam, he also hit a double. Garrison was 3-for-3 with a run and two RBI. Walker’s homer was a solo shot. Watson hit a two-run homer. Jacob Smith was 1-for-5 with a double and an RBI. Jarrett Jaques was 1-for-2 with a double, two runs and an RBI.
Watson now has six homers on the season and 20 for his varsity career. Jenkins has four homers.
The Dragons had nine hits on the day. Garrison got the win, allowing three hits and one earned run over four innings, striking out seven. Smith and Kyle Gardner finished the game in relief.
The Dragons next play Thursday at Greenwood.
