The fourth-ranked New Palestine baseball team improved to 12-2 on the season Wednesday with an 8-1 victory at Connersville.
The Dragons jumped ahead early, taking a 3-0 lead after two innings. A four-run fourth broke it open, giving NP a 7-1 edge.
Junior Nick Rusche paced the Dragons’ eight-hit attack, going 2-for-4 with a double, triple, two runs and four RBI. Jarrett Jaques also had two hits and scored a run.
Colby Jenkins had an RBI single and a sacrifice fly to drive in two runs. Jacob Hickman had a hit and scored twice. Jacob Smith also had a hit. Cameron Pitzer had a sacrifice fly for an RBI and also scored a run.
Smith (1-1) got the victory, allowing one earned run and three hits over four innings. Jauqes and Pitzer faced the minimum over the final three innings, allowing just one baserunner via walk. The Dragons outhit their hosts 7-3 in the contest.
The Dragons are next in action Friday at Greenfield-Central for a Hoosier Heritage Conference twinbill.
