The New Palestine baseball team rallied Monday to beat Whiteland 5-4 with a walk-off hit in the bottom of the seventh.
The Dragons had trailed 3-0 and 4-2, but had tied the game up with two runs in the bottom of the sixth. In the seventh, Andrew Roberts singled and scored on Colby Jenkins’ RBI hit to deliver the Dragons the win.
They came after the Dragons tied the game up in the fifth when the Dragons got multiple baserunners and they scored via wild pitch.
Cameron Pitzer came on in relief and pitched 4 1/3 innings, allowing one earned run, three hits and striking out three, to get his second win of the year.
Whiteland took an early 3-0 lead with a two-run second and a run in the third. The Dragons clawed back in the fourth with two runs on Jack Walker’s RBI single and Kyle Gardner’s sacrifice fly. Whiteland plated another run in the top of the fifth, setting the stage for NP’s comeback.
Walker and Jenkins each led the Dragons with two hits and an RBI each. Roberts and Jacob Hickman also had hits.
The Dragons are now 8-1 on the season. They next play Tuesday against Cathedral at Marian University. First pitch is 6:30 p.m.
