The New Palestine baseball team used the longball to win its second game in as many days Tuesday, blanking host Batesville 12-0.
The Dragons hit five homers in the game, including two each from senior Keegan Watson and sophomore Colby Jenkins, who each drove in five runs.
The Dragons used little time getting started, tallying two runs in the top of the first. NP added four in the third to extend its lead to 6-0, and then scored three runs in each the sixth and seventh innings.
Watson went 2-for-2 with five RBI. He also walked three times. Jenkins was 3-for-5 with four runs and five RBI.
Senior Tyler Martin also blasted a two-run homer in the victory.
Jacob Hickman was 3-for-4 with a double and a run. Nick Rusche had a double and scored twice. Jarrett Jaques had a single and a run. NP outhit Batesville 11-4.
Junior Jacob Garrison pitched four innings, scattering three hits and a walk while striking out eight. Jaques and Cameron Pitzer combined for four strikeouts in three innings of work.
The Dragons are now 2-0 on the season. They next play Friday, opening HHC competition at Shelbyville. The doubleheader is slated to begin at 5:30 p.m.
The Dragon JV also won 7-1 over Batesville to open its season. Zach Neligh was the winning pitcher, pitching three innings and striking out seven batters. Grant Hickman also pitched 3 2/3 innings, striking out 5 batters. The Dragons’ hitting was lead by Luke Green with three hits and Jacob Bain’s two hits and three RBI.
