Girls Varsity Gymnastics · Gymnasts win home opener


Emily Heighway won all four events as New Palestine’s gymnastics team won its home opener. The Dragons totaled 98.9 points. Shelbyville tallied 78.525 and Waldron had 50.625.

Heighway totaled 34.575 points to win the all-around. Faith Land was second (32.875), Bailey Watkins third (31.2) and Taylor Brown fourth (30.65).

The Dragons took the top four spots on the vault. Heighway tallied 8.5, Brown 8.45, Land 8.35 and TeTe Hart 8.3.

NP also had the top six spots on uneven bars. Heighway had an 8.5, followed by Land (7.75), Grace Shanahan (7.5), Alyssa Boothe (6.525), Watkins (6.475) and Brown (6.15).

On floor exercise, the Dragons also took the top six spots. Heighway tallied 8.975 to win. Watkins was second (8.4), Land third (8.275), Brown fourth (8.125), Hart 5th (7.95) and Alex Black sixth (7.875).

On balance beam, Heighway won with an 8.55, followed by Watkins (8.325), Land (8.075) and Brown (7.925). Rileigh Cox was sixth (6.95).

The Dragons are now 4-0 on the season. They next compete Thursday at Columbus North.
