The New Palestine swim teams opened their 2017 schedule Tuesday against Greenfield-Central.

The Dragon girls fell 135-51, while the NP boys dropped a 140-43 decision.

Courtnee Coffman was a double-winner for the Dragon girls. She won the 50 freestyle, with a margin of nearly a second. She also won the 100 backstroke with a 2.02-second margin over second place.

The Dragon boys were led by Colin Stacey, who won the diving competition.

In addition to Coffman’s double-win, NP’s Jessica Rogers was second in the 100 butterfly and third in the 50 freestyle. The 200 medley relay of Coffman, Hailee Holberton, Maria Virt and Rogers was also second.

Virt had two individual third-place finishes – the 200 individual medley and the 500 freestyle. Karen Shriver had a third-place finish in diving.

For the Dragon boys, in addition to Stacey’s win in diving, Tyler Corey had a second-place finish in the 50 freestyle. Chase Crowder was third in the 200 IM, as was Eli Branson in the 100 backstroke.

NP’s girls are now 5-5 on the year in dual/tri meets. The boys are 2-3-1 in dual/tri meets. Both teams next compete Jan. 14 in the Hoosier Heritage Conference meet at NPHS. The HHC diving competition will take place Jan. 12.
