The New Palestine girls basketball team took an early lead and pulled away to a 58-24 victory Tuesday at Shelbyville.

The victory gave the Dragons their fifth straight victory, and gave them a 3-0 record in the Hoosier Heritage Conference and a 6-3 mark overall.

Raegan McMurray led the Dragons with 19 points, and NP had great balance throughout the lineup. Megan Jolly and Katie Herron scored eight each. Jordan Reid, Haley Harrison and Emily Newcomb scored five each. Leah Seib and Emma Grable had four points apiece, and Cassidy Matheson had three.

The Dragons jumped out to a 14-3 lead after a quarter and extended it to 31-15 at the half. NP again held Shelbyville to two points in the third, leading 44-17 headed into the final period.

The Dragons next play Friday at Greenfield-Central in a boys-girls doubleheader, with the girls game tipping at 6 p.m. The JV teams will play at 6 p.m. Thursday at NPHS.

The Dragon JV also won 33-8.
