Multiple Teams · Girls swimmers win 3 events at Greenwood


The New Palestine girls swim team opened its season Tuesday, finishing a close third in a three-way meet at Greenwood.

The Dragons tallied 95 points, with Roncalli winning the meet with 121 and Greenwood finishing second with 111.

NP finished first in two relays, with Courtnee Coffman a triple-winner. She won the 100 butterfly and was part of both winning relays.

Coffman led the Dragons’ top individual race of the night with that victory in the 100 butterfly, winning by .17 seconds. Maria Virt placed third.

The 200 medley relay of Coffman, Hailee Holberton, Virt and Jessica Rogers started the meet off with a victory. Coffman, Anna Doolin, Rogers and Virt won the 200 free relay.

Rogers had a second-place finish in the 50 freestyle, while Doolin placed second in the 100 freestyle and Holberton second in the 100 breaststroke. Karen Shriver led the Dragon divers, placing third.

The Dragons’ 400 free relay of Rogers, Coffman, Virt and Doolin also finished second to close the meet.

The Dragons are next in action Monday at home against Pendleton Heights.
