The New Palestine volleyball team dropped a tight five-set decision to 4A No. 10 Zionsville Tuesday night at NPHS.
The Dragons won the second and third games, but Zionsville was able to pull out a close fourth set and then pulled away in the fifth to beat the Dragons 25-23, 21-25, 19-25, 25-22, 15-6.
Mia Long and Allison Dennemann had double-doubles. Long had 19 kills and 10 digs, while Dennemann had 17 kills and 21 digs. Libero Lydia Jones had 22 digs to lead the defense. Kara Morris quarterbacked the offense with 38 assists and three block assists.
“I am really proud of the way we played tonight,” Dragons coach Kelli Whitaker said. “Zionsville is a top 10 team in the state and we went toe to toe with them. I’m disappointed we couldn’t close it out in set four but there are a lot of positives to take away from this game.”
The Dragon JV fell 25-15, 25-15.
The Dragons (5-2) are back in action Wednesday at Warren Central, then travel to Greenfield-Central Thursday to open HHC play.
