Multiple Teams · Volleyball falls in nail-biter

The New Palestine volleyball team dropped a thrilling five-set nailbiter to Guerin Catholic 20-25, 20-25, 25-19, 25-19, 15-13 Wednesday at NPHS.

The Dragons controlled the first two sets, but Guerin was able to take early leads in the third and fourth sets. NP built leads of 11-8 and 13-11 in the deciding fifth set, but the Golden Eagles scored the final four points to win the match.

Allison Dennemann had 30 kills, 12 digs and two aces to lead the Dragons at the net. Mia Long had a double-double with 17 kills and 15 digs. Lydia Jones had 18 digs, while Kara Morris had 48 assists and nine digs.

“Tonight was heartbreaking. Being up two sets and letting them come back is something we shouldn’t forget,” Dragons coach Kelli Whitaker said. “Guerin had a great team but we had too many unforced errors and were unable to finish the match.”

The Dragon JV also fell in a nail-biter, in a 15-14 third set.

The Dragons (1-1) next play Aug. 25 at Whiteland.
