The New Palestine baseball team fell 3-2 to Decatur Central in an eight-inning regular season finale Tuesday afternoon at Decatur Central.

The Hawks built an early 2-0 lead in the first, but the Dragons clawed back with runs in the third and fifth inning to send the game to extras.

Nick Rusche led the Dragons’ five-hit attack, going 2-for-3 with an RBI. Evan Fitzgerald had a hit and an RBI. Cody Long had a hit and scored a run, and Braden Roberts also had a hit. Colby Jenkins walked twice and scored a run.

Kyle Gardner (6-1) scattered seven hits without allowing an earned run in 4 1/3 innings of relief, but took the decision on an unearned run. He had two strikeouts. Jarrett Jaques started and allowed two hits and two earned runs, striking out three over three innings.

The seventh-ranked Dragons finish the regular season with a 19-9 record. They will open tournament play at 2 p.m. Saturday against either Brebeuf or Manual at the Chatard sectional.
