The New Palestine volleyball team went point-for-point with Chatard, but the Dragons eventually fell 25-23, 25-23, 25-18 in the Class 3A sectional championship match Saturday night at Crispus Attucks.
Sophomore Allison Dennemann had 13 kills and 11 digs to post a double-double. Mia Long added 14 kills and seven digs. Katlyn Keele had 10 digs. Kara Morris had three kills and 28 assists.
“Tough loss for us tonight. We hung in there with Chatard but struggled to play consistent,” coach Kelli Whitaker said.
In the semifinal match Saturday morning, the Dragons beat Herron 25-9, 25-14, 25-3. Long had 11 aces and seven kills, Dennemann had 16 kills and three aces and Morris had 28 assists and five kills.
The Dragons finished the season 25-10, led by seniors Keele and Taylor Lawson.
“We have had such an amazing season,” Whitaker said. “I have never been around a group of girls that have had this much love for each other and the game. They truly dedicated themselves to the team and we had a lot of success because of that. We are going to miss our seniors so much. Katlyn and Taylor have such a positive spirit and have been excellent leaders for us. I also want to thank our senior manager Megan Thompson for her dedication to our program.”
