NPHS sophomore Raegan McMurray was named to the All-Hoosier Heritage Conference girls basketball team earlier this week.
McMurray was the Dragons’ leading scorer (10.7) and rebounder (5.4) and also ranked second on the team in assists (2.0) and steals (1.6), helping lead NP to a 12-12 season.
She is joined among the All-HHC selections by three Dragons who were named honorable mention all-conference: Gia Nitschke, Emma Laughlin and Haley Stratman. Nitschke averaged 7.2 points and 2.8 rebounds per contests, while Laughlin totaled 7.0 points, 2.6 rebounds and led the team with 2.3 assists and 1.9 steals per game. The duo comprised the program’s first playing senior class in three years. They helped lead the Dragons to their most wins since 2005, a nine-win turnaround from two seasons ago. They also helped lead the team to the first tournament title since 2005-06, when it won the New Palestine Invitational. Stratman averaged 6.9 points and 3.0 rebounds per game and was the team’s top 3-point shooter.
The remainder of the All-HHC first team is: Sydney Shelton, Olivia Coleman and Shaely Duff of Mt. Vernon; Laura Thomas and Samantha Underwood of New Castle; Madison Wise and Katie Helgason of Greenfield-Central; Sam Hammel and Adrienne Phillips of Pendleton Heights; Katy Johnson of Yorktown; Alexis Tackett of Shelbyville and Micaya Richardson of Delta. Mt. Vernon’s Steve Doud was named HHC Coach of the Year.
