The New Palestine Dragons led for much of the afternoon, but dropped a 47-42 back-and-forth battle to Greenwood Saturday in the Dragons’ final home game.
The Dragons led 19-17 at halftime and built the lead to 28-20 in the third quarter, but Greenwood rallied. The lead changed hands several times in the fourth quarter before a pull-up 3-pointer gave the Woodmen a 43-42 lead. NP had a shot inside to re-take the lead in the last 30 seconds, but it wouldn’t go, and Greenwood hit four straight free throws to end the game.
Raegan McMurray led NP with 13 points, going 3-for-5 from the floor and 7-for-8 from the line. She also had three rebounds and three steals. Katlyn Keele added eight points and six rebounds. Emma Laughlin had six points and four boards. Carly Hackler aalso had five rebounds, while Gia Nitschke had five points and four boards, as well as four steals.
Holly Hoopingarner led Greenwood with 39 points, hitting 12-of-21 from the floor and 14-of-15 from the line.
The Dragons (10-11) next play Tuesday at Connersville. They will open sectional play on Friday, Feb. 13 at Greenwood against the winner of the Greenwood/Franklin first-round game.
Greenwood won the JV game 40-27.
