Girls Junior Varsity Soccer, Girls Varsity Soccer · GSOC throttles G-C

Six different New Palestine players scored as the Dragons girls soccer team beat Greenfield-Central 6-0 on Wednesday night.

NP took a quick 2-0 lead, as Danielle Matus buried a free kick from just outside of the penalty area in the sixth minute. In the 14th minute, Courtney Smith took a free kick that was initially stopped by the Cougar goalkeeper, but Delaney Frye pounced on the rebound and scored.

At the end of the first half, Dragon goalkeeper Gabbi Pierson made two point-blank saves to preserve the shutout. The Dragons continued to put on pressure, and ended up scoring three goals in a five-minute span, with Kristin Villiger scoring from the touch line, Katie Villiger burying a far-post cross from Katie Settergren, and Madison Parish adding an insurance goal. Smith scored a late goal on a breakaway to make it 6-0.

The Dragons outshot G-C 30-5, with the back line keeping the play forward and Meaghan Matus playing a strong game in the central midfield.

NP is now 6-5 on the year and 2-2 in HHC play.

“The girls were more than ready to gain a win and played extremely well together. The passing throughout the game lead to Dragon domination,” coach Gina Fannin said.
The Dragons next play Saturday at Delta.
