The New Palestine girls soccer team beat Columbus East 3-2 on Saturday, with three second-half goals to build a two-goal advantage.
Katie Villiger had a goal and an assist three minutes apart in the opening minutes of the second half to give the Dragons a 2-1 lead. She helped tie the game by dribbling through several Olympians before dishing to Madison Parish for a blast past the keeper in the 45th minute. Villiger then put the go-ahead goal past the keeper moments later, giving her five goals in two games.
Kathryn Davis made it 3-1 by taking advantage of a bobbled ball by the goalkeeper. Columbus East rallied, taking advantage of an odd bounce — a clearing pass hitting the official and bouncing to an Olympian for the score, and then getting a penalty kick in the final four minutes to tie. Dragon junior goalkeeper Gabbi Pierson made the save to preserve the victory.
