Junior Katie Villiger scored a hat trick to lead the New Palestine girls soccer team to a 4-0 shutout of Yorktown Wednesday at NPHS.
Villiger scored two first-half goals and added a third to make it a 4-0 game. Madison Carpenter also had a goal and an assist, while Molly Carpenter had two assists.
Gabbi Pierson had the shutout for the Dragons.
“The Dragons were more than ready to gain this conference victory,” coach Gina Fannin said. “The ladies worked the ball rather well tonight in their new formation. They were able to get on the board early, within the first six minutes and only looked to increase the lead as the game went on.
“Katie Villiger had a hat trick tonight. Her first goal was sent across the 6 yard line from Madison Carpenter, where Katie simply redirected it into the net. She dribble through a few Tigers and slipped the ball just under the keepers dive to gain a 2-0 lead at half time. Into the second half, New Palestine held the middle well, but they were determined to make sure they finished off the Yorktown Tigers. With some “Carpenter” give and go passing up the field, #19 Molly Carpenter, laid off the last pass to #12 Madison Carpenter who gladly put the ball int he back of the net. Molly Carpenter then connected with Katie VIlliger to give her the remaining goal of her hat trick.”
The Dragons are now 4-2-0 on the season and meet Columbus East on Saturday.
The Dragon JV also won 4-0 on goals by Summer Petrow, Corrin Neese, Hannah Taggart and Olivia McKilligin.
