The New Palestine cross country teams competed Saturday at the Harvey Invitational at Brebeuf, and had two medalists — fifth-place Samuel Voelz in the boys race and ninth-place Marissa Crosby in the girls race.
Voelz ran 16:57 to lead the Dragon boys. He was 41 seconds back of winner Zack Snider of Brebeuf. Crosby finished the 5K run in 21:56 to finish ninth.
The Dragon boys placed fourth of nine teams, tallying 130 places. Brebeuf (25) was the winner, with Fishers and Guerin Catholic also placing ahead of the Dragons. NP outpaced Heritage Christian, Chatard, Covenant Christian, University and Herron.
In addition to Voelz, Riley Wilson was 27th (18:13), Chase Crowder 30th (18:20), Drew Legan 40th and Tyler Carrie 48th.
The Dragon girls were sixth in a 10-team field with a team score of 165. Guerin Catholic and Brebeuf took the top two places. In addition to Crosby’s top-10 finish, Bailey Wallace was 28th (23:37), Mattie Waggoner 34th, Natalie Lindsay 49th and Kenzie Privette 60th.
Ethan Westrate’s 35th-place finish led the Dragon boys in the JV race. Izzy Fleetwood’s 13th-place run led the Dragon girls in the JV 5K.
The Dragons next compete Wednesday at the Pendleton Heights Arabian Roundup.
