The New Palestine baseball team had 10 hits, but stranded 11 baserunners Wednesday in a 5-2 loss to Pendleton Heights. Four of PH's five runs were unearned. The Dragons had two hits in the top of the first, but PH drew first blood, turning two hits into a run in the bottom of the frame. The Dragons put two more runners on in the second and loaded the bases in the third, but were unable to find the equalizer. In the bottom of the third, PH extended the lead with a single, error and squeeze bunt bringing home one run. Another single followed by an error plated two more runs and put PH up 4-0. The Dragons led off the fifth with two singles, but stranded both runners. NP finally broke through in the sixth, as Wyatt Mathies and Jace Jaques led off with singles. Henry Thorpe's single to right plated one run. After a sacrifice by Adam Rickey moved both runners into scoring position, Nic Deering's lined single to left cut PH's lead to 4-2. But a doubleplay with runners on the corners ended the threat. PH added another unearned run in the bottom of the frame, and then stranded a baserunner in the seventh to end the game. Michael Thorpe had a solid game pitching, scattering seven hits, one earned run, walking none and striking out four. Deering and Jacob Morris each went 2-for-4. Deering had an RBI. Ben Hirschy was 2-for-3 with a walk. Jackson Kamp, Mathies, Jaques and Henry Thorpe also had hits for the Dragons. The Dragons are now 16-4 overall and 8-3 in HHC play. They conclude their two-game series against the Arabians at 6 p.m. Thursday at NPHS.
