Tennis sweeps Shelbyville

The New Palestine girls tennis team battled its way to a 5-0 sweep of Hoosier Heritage Conference rival Shelbyville Friday afternoon at Shelbyville. The Dragons won four straight-set matches. At singles, Kaitlyn Mitchell won 6-1, 6-4, while Bethany Blachly won a tight 7-5, 6-2 decision. Maizy Haynes was perfect in a 6-0, 6-0 victory. At No. 1 doubles, Josephine Harvey/Emily Appleby rallied to win the day's longest match, a 6-7(5), 6-2, 6-4 victory. Amelia Schneider/Riley Watts won 6-3, 6-3 at No. 2 doubles. The Dragons JV won 7-5. Kenzie Kleiman, Sydney Walter, Sophie Munson and Amelia Rojowski/Elliott Graham won in the first round of JV play. The Dragons are now 7-2 overall and 4-1 in HHC play. They are back in action Saturday at the Franklin Invitational.
