Volleyball wins two at Southport

The New Palestine boys volleyball team won two of its five matches at Saturday's Southport Invitational. The Dragons opened the day with a 25-10, 25-12 victory over Warren Central. Aaron Smith tallied four aces to lead the Dragons at the serving line. They they fell 25-15, 25-9 to Westfield to finish second in their pool. Daysen Wood had three kills, while Maguire Gross and Kameron Engle tallied four digs each. In the quarterfinal, they rallied to beat Lutheran 10-25, 25-14, 15-12 - avenging a loss from two days before. Wood and Chase Emberton had five kills each. Eli Martin added six digs. They matched up with Westfield in the semi for the second time on the day and the third time this season. The Dragons fell 25-15, 25-14. In a consolation match. Jaxon Hinkle had four kills and Smith tallied five digs. In the day's final match, the Dragons dropped a 21-25, 25-23, 15-7 decision to Whiteland. Emberton had eight kills, two blocks and seven digs. Smith added eight digs. Martin also had seven digs. The Dragons are now 8-10 on the season. They next play Monday at Shelbyville.
