Baseball stings Hornets

Jesse Isaacs and Sean Young combined on a one-hit shutout Friday, leading the New Palestine baseball team to an 11-0 five-inning victory at Beech Grove. Isaacs struck out four over four innings, allowing one hit, before yielding to Young in the fifth. He fanned two in a perfect frame. The Dragons scored in all five of their at-bats. Jace Jaques drew a bases-loaded walk and Michael Thorpe drove in a run with a sacrifice fly to put NP up 2-0 in the first. A sacrifice fly by Adam Rickey added a run in the second. In the third, Jackson Kamp led off with a double and scored on a wild pitch. A base hit by Henry Thrope plated Jaques, who reached via walk, making it a 5-0 lead. Jacob Morris singled and scored on an error to add a run in the fourth. In the fifth, the Dragons plated five more runs to trigger the mercy rule. Isaacs walked and Henry Thorpe singled to start the inning. Rickey walked to load the bases. A wild pitch plated one run, and a two-run single by Wyatt Mathies plated two more. After a base hit by Morris, Kamp doubled in a run and Morris came home on an RBI groundout by Jaques. The Dragons tallied 10 hits. Mathies was 2-for-4 with two runs and two RBI. Morris was 2-for-4 with two runs. Kamp was 2-for-3 with two doubles, a run and an RBI. Henry Thorpe was 2-for-3 with two runs and an RBI. Michael Thorpe was 1-for-2 with an RBI. Rickey was 2-for-2 with two runs and an RBI. Jaques drove in two runs and scored one. The Dragons (8-2) are next in action at 10 a.m. Saturday against Franklin Central.
