Girls track finishes fourth at sectional

Jordan Reid set a school record in the 100 and will advance to regional in four events.

The New Palestine girls track team saw three individual athletes and two relays advance to the regional after a fourth-place finish at the Shelbyville sectional.

Freshman Jordan Reid set a school record with a time of 12.35 in the 100, finishing second to Franklin Central’s Alexus Mobley. Reid also will advance in the 200, running a time of 25.73 to finish third.

The top three finishers in each event advance to next Tuesday’s regional at Franklin.

Freshman Kaylin Casner will advance in two individual events. She finished third with a time of 2:23.84 in the 800. In the 1600, she was runner-up by less than a second, running a time of 5:22.09.

Also moving on is Lillie Cain, who was runner-up in the shot put (38-5.5).

The Dragons advanced two relays out of the sectional. The 4×400 relay of Casner, Victoria Crowder, Sarah Greene and Edin Hurst was runner-up with a time of 4:07.61. The 4×800 relay of Casner, Crowder, Natalie Shanahan and Grace Voelz was third with a time of 10:13.57.

The Dragons had fourth-place finishes from Crowder in the 400 and the 4×100 relay of Maigan Williams, Olivia McKilligin, Greene and Grace Shanahan. Placing fifth was Cain in the discus. All advanced to the regional.

Also scoring for the Dragons were TeTe Hart (8th, 100), Hurst (7th, 200), Sophia Taylor (8th, 400), Voelz (8th, 1600), Haley Rickey (7th, 3200), Lydia Jones (8th, high jump), Hailee Holberton (8th, pole vault), Jaylin Calvert (8th, long jump) and Emily Jonas (6th, shot put).

The Dragons tallied 77 points to finish fourth. Warren Central (183) won the title, with Franklin Central (136) finishing second. Roncalli (79) was third. The Dragons were 14 points ahead of fifth-place Greenfield-Central.
